ILLUSION AND REALITY - VAN GOGH MUSEUM, AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND
Naturalistic paintings, photographs and films, 1875-1918 October 8th 2010- January 16th 2011
![]() George Clausen In the last quarter of the 19th century naturalism was the dominant movement in the arts. This photographic style of painting had it's followers across Europe and the United States. The artists chose their subjects from everyday modern life: workers, peasants, the bourgeoisie; all social strata were covered. In this exhibition, naturalism is viewed from different angles: the subject matter, the painting process and the reactions of critics and the public. More than fifty works, of often enormous size, will be on display in the exhibition wing of the Van Gogh Museum.
